Boise is updating the Historic Preservation Plan to better reflect today’s community values, challenges and opportunities. Since the plan was adopted, Boise has experienced significant growth and change, making it important to take a fresh look at how historic preservation works in Boise.
In 2023, the U.S. Air Force announced its intent to replace Gowen Field’s retiring A-10 jets with F-16s. The Air Force shared that an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) must be completed before any decision is made to permanently base F-16s at Gowen Field.
An EIS is a detailed study that looks at how the proposed mission could affect nearby neighborhoods, families, and the local environment. The process will take place over the coming months, with a final recommendation expected next spring.
A key part of the EIS process is public involvement. Hillcrest residents have a long history of helping shape the future of our community, and this study is an important opportunity to do just that. Community feedback gathered during the process will be provided to the Air Force and will help inform any steps taken to reduce or address potential impacts.
Residents who want to learn more about the study timeline or participate in public surveys can visit the Gowen Field website, which includes additional information about the process and Air Force materials. As this study moves forward, we encourage everyone to stay informed, take part in the public process, and use this opportunity to help shape our neighborhood’s future
Exciting news! The Hillcrest Neighborhood Association is working on a fresh new visual identity for our neighborhood—including a custom logo and signage—to better reflect the character, history, and charm of our community.
This new logo was made possible by the City of Boise's Neighborhood Improvement Program grant.
The next step of the rebranding will be to create street sign toppers that will be placed across the neighborhood.
